Wind & Wildlife

Wind

I was fortunate enough to spend a good chunk of the day with a photographer friend whose niche is wildlife photography. She knows the names of most birds, at what point they come out to play, and the best location to capture beautiful images. I’m a lover of Landscape, Street & Portrait Photography; however, I’m not going to lie, I’ve fantasized about getting up close and personal with Bambi, Thumper, Dumbo & Poo. So, I jumped at the chance to plan a photography adventure. It didn’t even matter that it was Friday the 13th; we were doing it!

Initially, we had planned to head to Salisbury Beach in Massachusetts in an attempt to catch the seals lounging about in the area. As it turned out, we got off to a late start at 11 a.m., instead of the desired window between 6 – 8 a.m. Due to my lovely scheduling mishap, we switched our plans and headed to the Parker River Wildlife Refuge in Newburyport, MA.

We walked the trails for roughly 4 hours on this beautiful day, and for the first couple of hours, I was convinced that the evil Friday the 13th spirits had abducted all the local wildlife. Come on now, I was equipped with a 200-600 mm lens on loan from my eldest sibling, and I wanted to take some super clear long-range shots!! All in all, the day did not disappoint. The beauty of the landscape, the fresh air, and the wind, which I later learned was the reason the wildlife was lying low, all aspects of the day were wonderful.

We did run into some luck later in the day when I captured my first Egret! She was beautiful, as you’ll see, even if she was adamant about masking herself behind the reeds!

Print & Digital Marketing

Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illustrator are like the dynamic duo for print projects. They each have their unique strengths that come in handy when creating awesome print designs.

Illustrator is great for creating graphics, logos, and illustrations, while InDesign is the master of page layout and making text look fantastic. When you combine the powers of both InDesign and Illustrator, you’ve got everything you need to create professional and eye-catching print designs.

Now, if only Adobe Creative Cloud would simplify things by streamlining their User Experience between products! A girl can dream, can’t she?

Environmental

portraits

My objective with this project was to create images of people within their natural environments.  Posted are my a few of my select favorites.

natural

world

I chose to create images of my “Natural” world with this project. As the term “Natural” frequently shifts and evolves, I chose elements of the world that are natural to me, yet in many cases, utterly unnatural in nature.  Enjoy!

abstract

Abstract photography can be quite challenging for someone who tends to run towards literal thinking. What do you mean, Grey? I want black or white!!!! While the captions give away the true identity of the subject, see if you can identify without referring to the caption. Good Luck!

– Susan

evidence

I chose to create a series of images that fall under the title of “Evidence”. The idea is to ensure that all images are cohesive enough to tell a story. While there are many styles I could fall back on to create a successful series, I chose one that heavily relies on my own personal interpretation of evidence.

narrative

My objective with this project was to create images of people within their natural environments.  Posted are my top two or three selections of the three featured subjects, as well as contact sheets for each containing 15 additional photographs that were created.

Restorations

Compositions

My original assumptions have been that Adobe Photoshop was an application to be used for restoring old images that have lost their original luster or better yet, a place to magically remove a blemish, add or remove some extra pounds, or fix a bad hair day…

WRONG!! I’ve since learned that there are limitless possibilities for beautiful works of art to be created in Photoshop! I can actually create artistic compositions up in this joint! You’ve caught me in the early stages of Photoshop experimentation.

The creative possibilities are endless!

Original poem by George Ella Lyon – Personalized by Susan C Anderson

I am from Walking Trails, from Rose Hip Oil and Beats by Dre. I am from the 1st-floor garden apartment, Green, Tan, mine. I am from a Baobab Tree, Thick, Tall, and Grounded. I’m from lovers of food and “Happy Birthday” is sung like a funeral procession. From Fred and Alison, from the passive and aggressive. From Big Foot who lives in the Winnebago and God who is everywhere, even in my spaghetti. I’m from the ethereal, a spiritual being, having a human experience. I’m from Boston, Fried Egg Sandwiches, Stone Soup From the hands of Sister Nancyon the 3rd day of December. Mom’s childlike innocence stored in a box is nice to have when you want to remember what you hadn’t realized you forgot.
